Samuel, Yitzchak


Son of Leah and Rabbi Aharon Elchanan. Born in Jerusalem on the 22nd of Sivan, June 6, 1961. After completing high school, Yitzchak joined the “Kotel” Yeshiva in the Jewish Quarter. In 1980 he enlisted in the framework of the “Hesder” for the IDF. He served in Battalion 79 of the Armored Corps. During the “Peace for Galilee” War he fought as a tank commander in Battalion 532. In 1989, Yitzchak returned to the army in the Armored Corps (Ground Forces) Division and served in various positions. He served as Head of the Military Intelligence Branch In the last decade of his life. He was responsible for the characterization and development of the Merkava tank, from Merkava Mark 2 to Merkava Mark 4 in the 23rd Armored Corps unit. Lieutenant Colonel Yitzhak Samuel died of an illness on the 29th of Av, August 19, 2009 at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem and was laid to rest at the Military cemetery near Kfar Etzion. Survived by a wife, six children, a mother and ten brothers and sisters.
