Samsonowitz, Avraham (“Avi”)

Son of Feivel and Miriam. Was born on September 13, 1941 in Shanghai, China, where he attended a Jewish kindergarten and completed one year of studies in a Jewish elementary school. At the beginning of 1949 the family immigrated to Israel and brought their young son with them. Avraham continued his studies in the area in the “Shiva” elementary school there. He belonged to the Hanoar Haoved movement and during his time in the school was very active in the sports sector and as head of the security guard there. After graduating from elementary school he studied and completed the ORT vocational school. In October 1958 he was drafted into the Armored Corps and served in his unit for a year and a half and then moved to Eilat, where he served for one year as an army representative in the Arkia offices and was responsible for flying soldiers. From time to time he was called up for reserve duty and at the outbreak of the Six-Day War he was called to reserve duty, and served as an artillery gunner who performed exceptionally well in a battle near Gaza at the El Kuba post. On the first day of the battles, 26 Iyar, June 6, 1967, he was killed and was buried in the emergency military cemetery in Bari. He was later transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
