Salzhendler, Meir

Salzhendler, Meir

Son of Ephraim HaKohen and queen. He was born on May 25, 1951 in Kfar Hess. He studied at the regional elementary school for Hadar Hasharon, then spent two years at the Ruppin High School in Emek Hefer and later moved to the Air Force Technical School, but did not finish the course because he did not want to play a combat role in the IDF. After the exams and before leaving for the IDF, he had some time to stay at home and during that time he took care of his grandfather’s farm (he left the village because of his age and left the farm). In fact, Meir planned to continue to maintain this farm and the time he had left before he began his service began to renew it. He was a member of the Bnei Tzivim Brigade and afterwards he was active as a counselor in various movement organizations – including summer camps, where he was a senior instructor. He was the training center in Kfar Hess, loved the livestock work and the decorative plants. He went on a lot of trips and took an interest in geography and politics. At the beginning of February 1970 he was drafted into the IDF, where he served in the Paratroopers Brigade and when he completed basic training (before the parachuting course) he was found to have high blood pressure and was therefore disqualified for parachuting. (May 7, 1971), Meir Meir and his nine friends were taken to the Tel Mond cemetery for burial in memory of Meir and his friends. Dikla, which was named after Meir and his friends “Hof Hane’ara”, not far from where they fell, was placed in a huge rock in their memory – The story of their life and death was commemorated in the book, which was published in memory by the families and called “The Enrichment.” For his participation in the War of Attrition, Meir received the War of Attrition.
