Salomon, Yosef

During the Second World War, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the Engineering Corps’s C-1039 Operations Company. He served in Egypt and in Tobruk, and later was sent to Greece with the force, whose aim was to stop the German invasion of this country. At the end of April 1941, the IAF surrendered, and most of its members were taken prisoner, including Salomon. On the 5th of Av (July 19, 1942), he died in captivity and was brought to eternal rest in the British military cemetery in Athens, Greece. He was commemorated in the book “Yizkor” by the Jabotinsky Institute and “The Book of the Year”.
