Salomon, Yehoshua (Shaya)


Son of Hannah and Yosef-Zvi, was born on 22 July 1927) in the village of Lutzka, Carpatho-Rus district, Czechoslovakia. The family was poor, and the boy moved to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, to study a workshop (electrification). In Hungary, Murray found him during the Second World War, but there he also found the way to Hashomer Hatzair. He was 17. With the help of his comrades he escaped from the Nazis back to Romania and on January 15, 1945 he immigrated to Israel as part of the “Aliyat Hanoar” He arrived at Kibbutz Beit Alfa and finally joined Kibbutz Dalia as a member of the kibbutz. At Beit Alpha he became a member of the Haganah and received his basic training. In the course of his career, he served as a battalion commander in the Golani Brigade, with most of his battles in the Valley and the Triangle, taking part in the conquest of Umm al-Zinat, Was wounded in the spinal cord and after ten days of torture died of his wounds at the hospital in Afula on 15 June 1948). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
