Yaakov was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, he served as a truck driver in the Golan Heights, he fulfilled all the tasks assigned to him. In the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battles of containment and the breakthrough against the Syrians in the Golan Heights, where he served as a tanker driver and assisted in the delivery of supplies to the combat forces On October 10, 1973, Yaakov’s truck was hit and he was killed. he was brought to eternal rest in the Be’er Sheva cemetery, leaving parents brothers and sisters behind. The commander of the unit wrote to the bereaved family and described Jacob’s image: “Your son, the late Sergeant Yaakov, served in my unit as a truck driver and proved his professional and personal ability under the shelling of the Syrian enemy.” In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the defense minister wrote: “Yaakov served in the Armored Corps. He was a good soldier and a loyal friend. Jacob was loved by everyone who knew him. “
