Sal-Mann, Uri

Shimon ben Avraham and Shoshana, was born on the 14th of Tishrai, November 8, 1957 in Jerusalem. He was an apprentice and a counselor in the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. He loved man, book, and the land on which he was born. In mid January 1976, Uri was drafted into the IDF. In the course of his service, he underwent a platoon commander’s course, a parachuting course, and an officers’ course. He took part in Operation Litani. Uri chose a difficult course for himself in the army, where he integrated combat unit training with the work of the land. Uri, with his great energy and sense of humor, helped by bringing a crate of food to the hungry guys, or by his spontaneous singing. On the 28th of Av, August 31st, 1978, Uri fell during his service. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He was 21 years old. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. After his death he was promoted to lieutenant. The family planted a garden in memory of Uri at the “Ir Ganim” school in Jerusalem, and with the help of Uri’s students, they established a cultural room in his memory at the “Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed”
