Sa’id, Israel

Israel (Yisroelik), son of Sarah and Yehia, was born on February 23, 1951, in the village of Alroy. Since his childhood, the family lived in the town of Rosh Ha’ayin, most of whose residents are Yemenites. In the town, Israel studied in the religious elementary school and the “comprehensive” high school. At school, his talent for acting, imitation, and poetry was revealed. Friends were gathered around him, who enjoyed being with him. In the hills near the town, the children spent much of their time – hiking the mountains, hunting animals out of the cisterns, chasing donkeys and horses and picking wildflowers. Israel was a great mischievous boy, and his passion for adventures was boundless. When he began to study in high school, under the direction of the beloved and meticulous educator Akiva, he entered a new framework of order and discipline. The conditions in the school were difficult. In the summer classes were held outdoors, and in the winter, in rented rooms, whose construction was not completed. Thanks to the strong will, the principal managed to bring order and teach his students Torah. These difficult conditions created a special friendly atmosphere between the students and the teachers – the reciprocal relations of the workers together. The teachers educated their students to give them a profession in life; Therefore, they were taught regrets, weldings, and mechanical frames – and in these professions Israel excelled. His works have always been cited as an example of precision and improvisation. The special atmosphere that prevailed in the school was manifested in various phenomena – many teachers stopped their classes in order to answer their students questions that bothered them. On a trip to Eilat, Akiva recited “Shirat Hayam” on the Red Sea coast; In nature classes, they all went to the fields, where they searched for plants, examined them, and heard explanations about their growth and development. Israel, who was an outstanding athlete with excellent physical fitness, was sent to a training course in the framework of the Gadna, and when he finished he was considered one of the best instructors. Israel’s talents found expression in his activities in the Hanoar Haoved movement. The time he was a member of the local club was one of the club’s brilliant periods. He took care to increase the activity of the departments and to promote social activity and was the driving force in every social meeting of the movement’s members. “When you raise the image of Israel, it is as though you are talking about the state, about the homeland, a country struggling for its existence, a young and ambitious country – Israel was an ambitious young man, he knew many struggles in his life, he loved life and work, Laughter, but also the seriousness he knew. ” Israel was drafted into the IDF in early February 1969 and assigned to the Infantry Division of the Golani Brigade. In this role, he and his unit embarked on a number of raids on the Lebanese border. At the end of February 1972, he completed his compulsory service and set out for civilian life. After much deliberation, he began to work in the diamond industry and did his work well. During this period he used to spend time with his girlfriend Ruthie, whom he wrote extensively about in his diary. Shortly before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, Israel was called up for reserve duty together with members of the Jerusalem Brigade stationed at the line of strongholds in the canal. Israel sat in a “caress” stronghold as a company commander’s liaison, and at his request he was allowed to participate in the daily patrols along the canal. The tour took place along the small bitter lake, and the force returned to the stronghold in the afternoon. Israel, together with the company commander, remained outside the stronghold at the Periscope position, and suddenly the shelling began and the Egyptians began to take over the outpost, and after an hour of brutal fighting, Israel was hit and fell. . He ordered them to fight all the way. Israel was found silent and the radio on his back. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Mount Herzl. GodSurvived by parents, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to his bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Israel fought with great courage and showed great devotion to its members, courage and resourcefulness, and acted with great self-sacrifice and great self-endangerment. In his memory, his comrades edited a booklet that his family had published; In addition, a Torah scroll was put in his memory for a synagogue in Rosh Ha’ayin.
