Safran, Shmuel-Yonah


Son of Tova and Shimon, was born on April 8, 1954 in Kiryat Ata, where he studied at the Yavneh religious school in Kiryat Ata and continued his studies at the Yavneh High School in Haifa. In August 1972 he joined the IDF, the Artillery Corps. In July 1973, Shmuel underwent a course for squad commanders and was promoted to Corporal. He fought in the Yom Kippur War in the Golan Heights. In February 1974, Shmuel moved to the rank of lieutenant colonel and continued his training, completing a parachute training course, and rose to the rank of lieutenant, completing his compulsory service, until August 1976. The opinion of his commanders during that period Was: “He is a dedicated, responsible, enterprising officer, acceptable to his subordinates, good on the subject of guidance.” After he left his army service, Shmuel worked for a surveying company. In 1977, he enlisted in the police and was appointed deputy commander of the Civil Guard in Kiryat Ata. In this work, Shmuel found great diligence and devoted many hours to establishing the Civil Guard in Kiryat Ata. In 1978, he began studying at the Faculty of Measurements at Tel Aviv University. During his studies, Shmuel continued to serve in the Civil Guard in the Tel Aviv area. He married, and after completing his bachelor’s degree, returned to Kiryat Ata, built his home with his wife and his son was born. In his work, Shmuel discovered a great deal of initiative and was one of the founders of the medical center and its integration into the Civil Guard in Kiryat Ata. He continued his army service in reserve duty, and in May 1980 he completed an artillery training course and was promoted to the rank of Captain Shmuel was placed in charge of an artillery battery On May 15, 1982 Shmuel was invited to participate in an artillery officer’s conference in Kfar Saba.
