Safonov, Daniel


Son of Bryna and Hananiah. He was born in 1904 in the city of Baku, the Caucasus region of Russia, and immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1908. The family settled in Petach Tikva and Daniel studied there in the Talmud Torah. During the First World War, the entire family was among the deportees and when they returned to Palestine, they settled again in Petach Tikva. In the moshava he was an orchard keeper on behalf of the local council. In 1926 he married a wife. On the 26th of Sivan (13.6.1928), during a night vigil, he was killed by stabbing and laid to rest at the Petach Tikva cemetery. He left a pregnant wife and a son. The son who was born after his fall is named after him – Daniel. The story of his downfall is told in the book “Reishit- to Complete the 70th anniversary of Petach Tikva.”
