Sabshi, Baruch


The first and joyful son. He was born on March 24, 1949 in Jerusalem. He studied at the Remez Elementary School in Lod and at the Amal vocational high school in Rehovot. He was a sports fan and participated in various competitions for the schools he attended. As a student at the vocational school, he was a member of the “Gadna” and was a social man, and was always ready to help others and during the Six-Day War, before volunteering, volunteered to guard the evenings with other boys. To build wooden things, one of which was a model of the Eiffel Tower, and he installed a menorah, a few stools for all the neighbors, a mailbox for his grandfather, etc. He was also a photography enthusiast and loved landscapes and figures, Baruch was drafted into the IDF in August 1967 and assigned to the Armored Corps. During his service he was one of the best soldiers in the battalion. He was loved by his commanders and all his fellow soldiers. On July 10, 1969, he was wounded in a battle in the Suez Canal area. He was captured by the Egyptians and died that day when they kidnapped him. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his bereaved family: “Your son was one of the outstanding soldiers in the unit and was a candidate for promotion, and he had to be sent to a tank commanders’ course. In captivity while he was trying to call for help from a nearby tank when his tank was hit, and the rest of the crew, and himself, were seriously injured, and in his life he was very popular and accepted by his comrades. Remember and in light we will continue to educate generations of warriors, as the decree of your son who began and did not finish. “
