Saban, Yisrael


Son of Esther and Avraham, was born in 1926 in the city of Tirya, Turkey. He graduated from elementary school and later worked as a driver. When he lost his father, Yisrael took upon him self the burden of caring for his widowed mother and younger siblings. He was devoted and loyal to the Zionist idea and the Zionist movement and also brought his mother’s heart to this movement. In 1944 Yisrael immigrated to Israel and eventually worked as a driver and settled in Rishon Letzion. During the War of Independence he volunteered for service, served in the Alexandroni Brigade and fulfilled his duty as a fighter and driver until he was injured and taken to Beilinson Hospital where he died onthe 23rd od Av, August 28, 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya. His mother arrived in Israel after his death.
