Saban, Rahamim (Clement) (“Rami”)
Son of Morris and Herschel. He was born on August 30, 1945 in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1957 he came to Israel with his family. After completing his studies at the Trumpeldor Elementary School in Nahariya, he moved to a high-school vocational school in the area and studied until he completed his studies there. At school he excelled as an athlete and devoted much of his spare time to sports activities; For this he received many certificates of appreciation. He also participated in the activities of the Gadna, and even showed a great deal of activity, and he organized many sports activities and because of his love for the children, he devoted much attention to his young pupils, but he still loved the sea at a young age. Galim, where he took a course of seven months and from there went straight to the navy when he was drafted in April 1963, where he served in the Eilat branch. More than once his commanders and friends told him how loyal he was to his work and his comrades. He loved to help every person in need and to encourage them in times of crisis. He was also devoted to his parents. At the end of his compulsory service, he continued his permanent service. During his service, he participated in a naval battle with Egyptian torpedoes and hit a shrapnel close to his Lev. After his stay, the hospital continued to serve at Eilat. The destroyer was like a second home to him. As his commander recounts, Rami was mentally attached to the ship, treated with dedication the soldiers and equipment under his supervision, and the staff paid him respect and admiration. His last visit to the house was on 18 October 1967 for a few minutes, because his friends were waiting for him at the time in a military car. He promised to come again, but fate wanted otherwise, because three days later, on the 22nd of Tishrei 5728 (22.10.1967), Eilat was drowned by Egyptian missiles in front of a Romanian beach in northern Sinai. Since his body was not found in the depths of the sea, a memorial monument was placed in his memory at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and a memorial monument was erected in his memory in the military cemetery in Haifa.
