Saban, Ephraim
Son of Mordechai and Rachel. He was born on the 28th of Av 5761 (August 28, 1951) in Tel Aviv. He studied at an elementary school in Holon and at the agricultural high school in Petah Tikva. After that he was in the “Hanoar Haoved” institution in the Erez group. He was much involved in sports in order to prepare himself to serve as a soldier in a combat unit. From the age of 17 he tried to enlist, despite his parents’ pleas to finish his studies, and only because of the law that prevented his enlistment he had to wait until the age of 18. Ephraim was drafted into the IDF in early May 1969 and volunteered to serve in the naval commando. He was eager to represent his family, so that his friends, neighbors and relatives would see him as the hero of the family On his holiday, when he appeared at home, the paratrooper’s wings on his chest and the red cap on his head, (July 7, 1970), fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. The commander of the unit wrote to the bereaved family: “A devoted friend, a loyal and responsible soldier, was lost to the paratroopers, and he took part in ambushes and persecutions in the Jordan Valley, taking part in operations along the Suez Canal and participating as one of the good soldiers. In the time of trouble, he always knew how to do his job, and he served in one of the roles that required dedication and responsibility, and our unit sees you, Ephraim’s family, as the ones who taught your son that way.
