Sabag, Jacob


Son of Meir and Simcha. He was born in 1954 in Arpod, Morocco, and when he was eight years old he immigrated to Israel with his family, who settled in Beit She’an. He completed his studies at the Tachkemoni religious elementary school in the city. He was a good student and his teachers predicted great things to him. He was a member of the religious sports organization Elitzur and of the organization’s basketball team. Yaakov participated in many marches and trips, held on behalf of the Histadrut branch in his city and frequently told the family about his experiences and impressions. He had a gold Lev and helped everyone. Prior to his enlistment, he volunteered for Magen David Adom and Firefighters. He always came out to help the sick and was one of the first to want to put out a fire. Yaakov joined the IDF in early July 1972, took a driving course and served as a truck driver, and he fulfilled his difficult and difficult task without any complaints or complaints and became fond of all of his friends On 7/3/1973 he fell during his service and was taken to rest – In the Beit Shean cemetery. In a letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Only a few months ago Yaakov managed to serve in our unit, but even in this short time we managed to stand up for his qualities as an excellent and dedicated soldier and a loyal friend.” A Torah scroll in his memory was donated by the family to the Rabbi Abuchazira synagogue in Beit Shean.
