Russk, Ze’ev (Wolf)
Son of Moshe. He was born in the city of Kutno in 1914. As a member of a traditional Jewish family, he studied in a yeshiva and later in the Mizrachi school, where he was a member of the Zionist movement in his city and active in the Mizrachi Organization. After his aliyah he worked in various jobs and even set up an independent factory and was involved in social life and the Yishuv, aware of all that was happening and responding to every call by the national institutions. In 1942, when news of the war against the Nazis arrived, Ze’ev volunteered for the British army and was stationed in the infantry. On 5 Nisan (19.3.1945), when his regiment was stationed in Italy, Wolf and his colleagues set out to find mines. On their way they encountered a class of German soldiers and took them prisoner. During the exchange of fire with other German units, Ze’ev was killed, the first victim of the Brigade at the front. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ravenna, Italy. His name was commemorated in “The Jewish Brigade Book.”
