Rumi, David

David, son of Esther and Nissim Rumi, was born in Istanbul in 1928 and immigrated to Israel in 1943. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he was drafted into the army and served in the Carmeli Brigade. Because of his state of health, he was not actually assigned combat duties, but when the fighting began, he felt that he could not remain behind and took part in all the battles of the company until his strength ran out. David participated in Operation Hiram for the liberation of the Upper Galilee and in the Manara area. On October 31, 1948, he was on the first line when a bullet hit his Lev. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rosh Pina. He left behind his wife, Yaffa.
