Rubinstein, Yikhat (Yakush)
Son of Henya and Shlomo, born on 19 November 1927 in Kfar Melel, was a healthy and agile boy who loved the village life and was drafted as a Coast Guard at the age of 15 and served in this brigade for about two years until it was disbanded. when he was 17, he got enlisted in the Palmach and took part in various activities, including raising immigrants and blowing up Giv’at Olga police and railroad tracks near Qalqiliya. He practiced in the Rangers’ Department at Mishmar Ha’emek and stood out in his sharp eye and the ability to walk far and wide. He worked as a tractor operator and soon learned the construction work. After a two-year service, he returned to his farm, got married and began to build a home for himself until he was called to the reserve unit at the end of 1947. Yikhat was attached to a battalion that was based in Hulda and participated in the last convoy to Jerusalem. 1948, with the help of his battalion’s auxiliary force, took part in “Yoram Operation”, the third attack on Latrun, because of a mistake in navigating the battalion, instead of on the 13th deck, as planned, the fighters stormed the outpost and succeeded in conquering part of it. The enemy’s resistance was fierce and the casualties had no power to complete the conquest of the outpost and an order was given to withdraw. On, June 9, 1948. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
