Rousseau, Menashe

Son of Nissim and Flora. He was born on March 15, 1926 in Izmir, Turkey. He attended high school there but did not complete his studies there. He was a member of a pioneering movement whose goal was to bring youth to Israel. He always took his life to the Holy Land. He also made several efforts to obtain a visa to immigrate, and when he did not succeed, he volunteered for the Turkish army but found no rest in his soul because of his longing for Israel. After eighteen months of service, he escaped from the camp and hid in his room for two months. He finally succeeded in leaving Turkey on a small, unknown cargo ship and arrived in Israel in August 1949. He was drafted into the IDF in October 1950. In the course of his duty, on the 17th of Nisan 5711 (23.4.1951), he fell and was brought to eternal rest to- The military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
