Rotenberg, Theodore (Teddy)


Son of David and Tamra. He was born on the 22nd of Iyar, May 31, 1948 in Katowice, Poland. He attended the Shenkar Elementary School in Holon. After, he began at the “Aliya” school in Tel Aviv, where he studied for two years. Then he attended the 11th grade at Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, and in 12th grade, at a high school in Tel Aviv. Because he was fond of sports, he belonged to Zevulun and to Hapoel. He also participated in the Sea of ​​Galilee’s successes every year. He then became a dental technician. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1966, and served as a sabotage officer in the battalion. He stood out in his courage, and his dedication to his role. He was an example of his commanders and subordinates alike. He had not yet completed his compulsory service, when one day he went on a routine patrol, and his vehicle hit a mine. He fell on the 26th of Av, August 20, 1968. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. The commander of his unit, on behalf of the soldiers of the Barak Brigade and the Golani Brigade, wrote a letter of condolence to his family, and described Theodore as loyal to the company, as a model soldier to his comrades and commanders. “He never hesitated to carry out the difficult tasks that were imposed on the unit, with great devotion and dedication.” His friends in the Barak Battalion set up a monument in his honor on the Golan Heights, where he fell.
