Rosonick, Yaacov (Yankele)

Son of Chaya and Zvi, was born in 1928 in Borislav, Poland. In 1933 the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. Yaakov completed elementary school, began to work at sewing and on his own completed his studies and acquired a high school education. When Yaacov was 15, he joined the Lehi underground and worked as a youth counselor and as a soldier. During his four years of underground he did not actually have one hour of vacation.”How good it is to fight openly,” he told his sister. Yaacov was assigned to a combat battalion in the 8th Brigade, and participated in all battles of his battalion. Yaacov fell in Operation Horev to remove the Egyptian army from Israel, in the battle of Auja-el-Hafir, on the 25th of Kislev 5709 (December 27, 1948). He was buried in Halutza. On the 23rd of Tammuz 5709 (20.7.1949), he was laid to rest at the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
