Rosh, Gidi


Was born on May 11, 1959 in Ramat Gan, where he grew up in the Ramat Gan neighborhood of Ramat Gan, where he moved to Haifa, where he moved to Haifa, “Until he finished tenth grade, after his family returned to Ramat-Chen, Gidi finished high school at the Shalva School in Tel Aviv, and last year served as chairman of the student council. Although Gidi belonged to the Scouts movement, he showed special interest in sailing and even achieved great achievements in this sport. He hoped that when he was drafted to the IDF he would serve in the navy, and that Gidi was full of joie de vivre, loved to joke and hang out, and he swallowed books from his early childhood and until the day he fell he read ceaselessly serious literature. He was also accepted by his friends and established rapport with the elderly, perhaps because of the special relationship with his grandfather, who had grown up with him since the age of two, and who contributed greatly to the expansion of his horizons and the formation of his personality. But during his initial training, he was dismissed from the course and transferred to the Navy. Gidi took a diving course and a half-course for naval officers, but he took his place in the Israel Defense Forces in the Artillery Corps, and in November 1978 he was transferred to the rank of commander. The opinion of his commanders at that time was: “He is an officer of a high professional level, is well-versed in his subordinates, disciplined and very efficient at work.” Gidi signed a military service in February 1981 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in March 1981. In his duties as an officer, Gidi placed an emphasis on grooming his soldiers, and in his many efforts to alleviate the personal distress and family problems of his subordinates On the day the Peace for Galilee War broke out, on June 6, 1982, Gidi was with his unit, deployed in the Tire area in Lebanon, and commanded a battery that moved in the front guard. Gidi, who knew how dangerous his soldiers and wounded were in the area, was concerned about the evacuation and rescue of the wounded and my life. He was exposed when the ammunition truck exploded, was hit by a shrapnel and killed, and in this act he showed courage and self-sacrifice, for which he was given a commendation by the brigade commander, He was five years old and was supposed to be discharged from the IDF. Gidi was laid to rest at the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv. He left behind his parents and two sisters. After he fell, Gidi was promoted to captain.
