Rosenzweig, Matityahu-Yosef


Son of-Avraham-David and Ethel. He was born on April 23, 1945, in Stronzionitz, Russia. When he was one year old, the family immigrated to Israel with him and when he reached school age, he was educated in religious schools. At first he studied and completed his studies at the Yavneh religious school and was a diligent student. Afterward, he studied in the “Noam” midrash in Pardes Hanna and his educators found him to be an outstanding student. Matityahu was drafted into compulsory service in October 1963, but he was enrolled in the academic reserve and his service was postponed until the end of October 1967. In the meantime Matityahu continued to study at the Hebrew University of Haifa and after a few years graduated as a chemical engineer. All his life he had been studying and acquiring knowledge-even listening to classical music. While in the Technion during his studies, he began his service in the Israel Defense Forces and during the course of his studies he underwent a course for the security officer. He completed his training in the Armored Corps and arrived with his unit in the Suez Canal, but returned to compulsory service at the beginning of November 1967. He then completed a supplementary course for armored corps officers and was appointed commander of the ” But on the 27th of Shevat 5728 (26.2.1968), Matityahu Yosef fell in the line of duty, and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa, in a letter to his parents, in which he wrote: His eyes on state security and the public good.
