Rosenthal, Yaakov


Jacob (Liwan, Filo), son of Yaffa and Eliahu, was born on 27.7.1953 in Haifa. Yaakov was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-November 1971 and volunteered to serve in the parachuted Nahal Brigade, after completing basic training in the tank course “Centurion.” He was a good soldier, responsible, disciplined and dedicated to his job. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he and his comrades were training in Beersheba, and when the alert was announced, all the unit’s men were flown in In the morning hours of Yom Kippur, the force took over positions, and after several hours of bloody fighting, his tank was hit not far from a bridge. All of the tankers were injured, but Yaakov was the only one who could not escape and died.
