Rosenkrantz, Leonid (Leon)

Ben Adele and Pavel. He was born on 24 August 1984 in the city of Kishinev in Moldova (former Soviet Union). He immigrated to Israel on 13 December 1990 and settled with his parents in Be’er Sheva. He studied at Reut Elementary School, continued his studies at the Rabin Comprehensive High School, and completed his studies in 2002 with a full maturity in computer studies, a field he was particularly fond of. Leon’s main hobby was the construction of free models and most of his spare time devoted to this subject. At the Technion in Haifa, he took a course in the field of aviation instructors, followed by a trainer in the Beer Sheva models department. He was a member of “Airport Kloof Israel” – the umbrella organization for the sport of aviation in the country affiliated with the World Federation of Aviation. Leon participated in many tournaments of pilots in Israel and abroad, was the country’s champion in youth rankings in 2001, and went with the Israeli national team to the World Championship held in Hungary in 2002. Leon joined the IDF on April 6, 2003 and was assigned to the infantry field units After completing his basic training, he went to a squad commanders’ course, which was held at the Magal Commanding School (a combat backup unit) and at the end served as the commander of the Nitzanim training center. Thanks to his high grades, he left for an officer’s course in May 2004. In November 2004 he returned to his base and served as a platoon commander. Later he served as a security officer at the Tze’elim base. Lieutenant-Colonel Leonid Rosenkrantz fell in the line of duty on May 27, 2005, at the age of twenty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. Survived by parents. About two years after his fall, on March 19, 2007, his twin brothers Dan and Ron were born. “Club Aviation to Israel” commemorated Leonid by awarding a trophy for his achievements in the competitions.
