Rosenberg, Shimon


Son of Sarah and Shlomo. He was born on August 19, 2222 in Saratov, Russia. When he was two years old, he immigrated with his parents to Eretz Israel. They settled in Haifa, where he completed his elementary studies at the “Yavneh” religious school, and then began working in automotive mechanics and frameworks with a professional in the city. While working, he studied mechanics and became a car mechanic. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and during his leisure time was involved in sports. In early March 1940 he enlisted in the British army, was assigned to a supply company and a year later was transferred to a mechanic unit and sent to a workshop on the African front where he was employed as a mechanic. “Shimon worked in the welding department of the workshop and came to a wonderful job, he was not as quick and efficient as he did his job, and he was always ready to do any work at all hours of the day and night. Every week he would deduct the large portion of his pocket money and transfer it to his family. On the 18th of Menachem Av, 5702 (August 1, 1942), Shimon was injured during his term of office and was killed. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Moukasar, Egypt.
