Rosenbaum, Benjamin-Shlomo

Son of Rachel (Rella) and David, born in Kozmink, near Kalisz, Poland, on the 24th of Tishrei, 1929. When he was seven years old, he immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel in 1935. He completed elementary school In Petah Tikva, and began working in a knitting factory in Pardes Katz, and was influenced by his parents when he joined the Bnei Akiva religious youth movement, a quiet and self-contained boy who was very attached to his home, In one of the British Army’s search operations in Petach Tikvah, he was arrested as a suspect in belonging to one of the underground movements and held for a year in Latrun, Binyamin-Shlomo was released shortly before the British left the country, He served in the “Carmeli” brigade, was tall and strong, learned hard work and self-sacrifice, and after his last leave he said goodbye to his brothers with a blessing: “We will succeed in the country.” He participated in Operation Brosh to destroy the Syrian bridgehead in Mishmar Hayarden, In this area, Binyamin-Shlomo fell on the night of 3 Tammuz 5708 (10.7.1948). Until the very last moment, he had defended the withdrawal of his comrades from the outpost by machine gun. Was buried temporarily by the Syrians and transferred on the 16th of Tammuz 5708 (23.7.1948) to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
