Ron (Rabinowitz), Yehuda
Son of Bella and Moshe was born in Russia on January 7, 1946. He immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1957. The family settled in Kiryat Gat, Yehuda continued his studies at the Sprinzak Elementary School, where he completed his junior high school and went to study at the “Neurim” vocational school in electronics, where he studied at the Technical School for Armored Corps. He had undergone basic training and a parachuting course and had been sent to a course for liaison officers. Yehuda completed his regular service in July 1966 and volunteered to serve in the regular army as a liaison officer in the Armored Corps, where he fought in the Six-Day War and was promoted to lieutenant in December 1968. He fought in the Yom Kippur War and after the war was transferred to serve as an instructor in a senior officer course. In all his various roles he distinguished himself in his skills and professional knowledge. In June 1976 he was appointed battalion commander of a liaison battalion with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Yehuda aspired to professional progress and to academic studies. He completed four years of engineering studies at the Faculty of Management and Industry at Beer Sheva University. During his studies, he was diagnosed with a serious illness that took him two months before the end of his studies. After his death he was recognized as an academic in engineering. Yehuda died on the 19th of Iyar 5743 (2.5.1983) at the age of 37. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rehovot. He left behind a wife, a son, a daughter and a mother. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “We have lost a loyal, talented and devoted officer, and above all a sensitive and unique person.” He was one of the most senior officers in the Israel Defense Forces, performing a wide variety of positions, up to the position of battalion commander, and as a talented officer was sent by the IDF to study engineering,
