Roll, Meir (Marchel)


Meir, son of Leopold and Fruma Roll, was born on the 23rd of Sivan 5704 (June 14, 1944) in the city of Ciecava, Romania. In 1964 he immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Na’an. In November 1966, he was drafted and assigned to the Golani Brigade for only three months and was released from the army, but when the days of alert before the Six-Day War were over, he was called to serve. He then said goodbye to his friends in a letter that ended, “I am going and I will never return … ” At the outbreak of the Six-Day War he fought in Abu Tor in Jerusalem, and in this battle he fell, on the second day of the battles, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (6.6.1967). He was buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
