Rob (Hilrovitz), Gideon
Son of Frieda and Asher, he was born in Tel Aviv on October 25, 1952. He studied at the Emunim elementary school where he received his first traditional education, and continued his studies at the “Nechalim” High School. He had a strong body and excelled in sports. He played tennis well and was interested in football. He was also active in the Bnei Akiva movement. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the IDF, and in July 1970 he was drafted and served in the paratroop brigade. He underwent training in basic training and a series of courses, including a parachute course and a course for military commanders, and in April 1971 was promoted to corporal. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in February 1973. Gideon was a candidate for an officer’s course but went on to study at the University of Florida. He completed his studies in hotels and international relations, and after graduating from university he returned to Israel. For a short period he worked at the Hilton Hotel in Jerusalem, moved to Tel Aviv and started running a hotel for his father. He married and built his home in Ramat Gan. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, he was drafted into his unit and fought in the outskirts of Mansuriya, Lebanon. On the 3rd of Tammuz 5742 (24.6.1982), in the midst of a battle, as a paramedic he was involved in the rescue of wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Gideon was hit by the enemy fire and was killed at the age of 29. He was laid to rest in the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv Left a wife, a brother, and sister. In a letter of condolence to his family: “He was an outstanding soldier with perseverance and willpower, Volunteered for every mission.”
