Roaash, Gad (Gadi)


Son of Fanny and Gabriel, was born on 26.1.1961 in the city of Meknes, Morocco, and in 1962 the family immigrated to Israel and he began his studies at the elementary school in Gaulim Aleph in the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem. In August 1979 he enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to serve in the Golani Brigade, where he underwent a basic training course in Golani, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was recommended to continue on an officer’s training course. During the Peace for Galilee War, he commanded an armored personnel carrier, and arrived with his unit to the outskirts of Beirut. On 16 Tamuz, July 6, 1982, a Katyusha rocket landed directly at the combat unit in an armored personnel carrier, and the APC exploded and the four soldiers were killed. Gadi was one of them. He was 21 years old. Gadi was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents, five brothers, and among them his twin brother. The defense minister wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Sergeant Gadi Roash gave his life for his homeland, and fell in West Beirut as a veteran sergeant.”
