Rickenberg, Peretz

He was born in 1912. After immigrating to Eretz Israel he lived in Petach Tikvah, where he joined the British Army and was assigned to the 462 Company of the Transport Corps, serving in Egypt and Lebanon, and on 27 Nisan, May 1, 1943, a German reconnaissance plane circled over the convoy of ships headed by the “Aryanpura.” The plane summoned bomb planes that arrived in the evening and bombed the convoy off the Benghazi coast. Peretz’s ship was damaged and drowned, and one hundred and forty of the 462 soldiers were killed, including Peretz. Peretz’s memory was commemorated in the book of volunteerism in the Yizkor book of the Jabotinsky Institute and the book of Journalists of the Year. In the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem was established a ship-shaped monument beside a pool of water on the bottom of which is engraved names of the MIAs.
