Richard, Carl


Carl, son of Gisela and Ludwig Richard, was born on February 2, 1924 in the city of Brono, Czechoslovakia. The family immigrated to Israel when the Germans took control of Czechoslovakia in 1939 and settled in Tel Aviv. He graduated from high school and went to work as weaver. In March 1948 Carl enlisted in the army, trained in Netanya and was sent to the Upper Galilee as a combat soldier in the Oded Brigade. With precision and dedication, he fulfilled all the military duties imposed on him. Carl was a machine gunner and a medic and was not deterred by danger. In his last battle, in Tel Azziyat, during a heavy Syrian attack on the mound, he was severely wounded and died of his wounds on the 10th of Tammuz 5708 (17 July 1948). He was buried in Tel Hai and on the 20th of Cheshvon, 31.10.1950 was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
