Reuven, Ronen


Son of Sarah and Ehud. He was born on September 28, 1969 in Kiryat Motzkin. A third child to his parents. He was a curly, handsome, smiling boy. On the third day of the family, the family temporarily relocated to Ashkelon following the father’s work and returned to Kiryat Motzkin a year later. Ronen grew up in Kiryat Motzkin and studied at the Weizmann elementary school. On the ninth day, when he was in fourth grade, Ronen was orphaned from his father. He continued his studies at the ORT Motzkin High School in the field of mechanics. Was a favorite pupil of the teachers, because of his pleasant personality, more than for his scholastic achievements. He was active in the Hashomer Hatzair movement and during the summer he taught at camps and received a certificate of appreciation. Was a joker and knew how to enjoy life. As a teenager, he spent a lot of time at the beach, playing football and listening to pop and rock music, especially Pink Floyd and Beatles. He spent the period after graduating from high school in 1987 until shortly before his enlistment. He was drafted into the IDF in February 1987 and volunteered to serve in the Paratroopers Brigade, where he was proud of his uniform, Ronen fell during his duties on 17.8.1988 after a successful ambush by the elite unit. He was hit by a disaster in Lebanon and laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his mother, sister and two brothers – Smadar, Ami and Yaniv. “Ronen enlisted in the paratroopers … to fulfill his personal dream and to serve as a model for his friends in Kiryat Motzkin and to represent the Reuven family in the way that seemed to him the most honorable … Ronen was one of the best soldiers in the company and he went on a mission As an elected among many others. ” The commander further noted that Ronen was endowed with the goals he chose for himself, with a constant smile and with the ability to make the time of his friends pleasant. His family commemorated his name in a memorial book he published in his memory.
