Rela, Arieh-Yehuda (Ernest)


Aryeh Yehudah, son of Simcha (Freida) and Ze’ev Rela, was born on December 21, 1921 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Aryeh Yehudah immigrated to Israel in 1941 and volunteered for the British Army. After his discharge from the British army, he married and worked as a manager in the textile factory and in 1947 his daughter Leah was born. During the War of Independence, Aryeh Yehudah served in the 7th Brigade. He participated in Operation Ben-Nun Bet, the second attack on the Legion in Latrun, with the aim of breaking through the road to Jerusalem. The attackers encountered enemy forces and were forced to flee to Jerusalem. Aryeh Yehudah fell in this battle on the 22nd of Iyar, May 31, 1948, and was buried in Na’an. He was reinterred on the 2nd of Sivan, May 18, 1950 in Nachlat Yitzhak. He was survived by a wife and a daughter.
