Reitman, Yair

Reitman, Yair

Yair, son of Ernst and Helena Reitman, was born in 1947, in the city of Kalena, Czechoslovakia. He was two and a half years old when his parents immigrated with him to Israel (in 1949). He was drafted in August 1965 and assigned to the Ordnance Corps. In the army he excelled in his work as a tank mechanic, and as a model soldier who diligently worked day and night. When the Six-Day War broke out, at the entrance to the Zweid compounds in Sinai, a mortar shell hit the half-track in which he and the crew were killed. It was on the first day of the war-fighting, on 26 Iyar, 5June 1967. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari and was transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
