Reidler, Joseph (Jean)

Reidler, Joseph (Jean)

Son of Menachem. He was born in 1910 in the city of Pancho, Romania, and he immigrated to Palestine in 1935. He settled in Pardes Hanna and lived in Beit-Pika, where he earned a living from the tailoring profession. He bought a house in the Tel-Shalom neighborhood near Pardes-Hanna, where he studied Hebrew and was proud of his achievements, and was sent to help protect the construction of the northern fence in 1936. When he returned to Pardes Hanna, Joseph, nicknamed “Jean” by his friends, was known as a courageous man: “He was always the first,” testified his accomplices, who in dangerous cases would leave alone to inspect the area. On 10 Elul, September 6, 1938, just three years after his immigration to Israel, he went to guard with Moshe Gudelstein on a hilltop on the northeastern border of the moshava. When they reached the position, Joseph was shot at close range from an ambush and killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in Pardes Hannah. His memoirs were published in the newspapers Davar and Bamahane.
