Reich, David (Romek)


Son of Sidonia and Ze’ev, was born on May 15, 1920 in Bielsko, Poland, and attended high school. David survived all the horrors of the Holocaust and immigrated to Israel in 1944. In Israel he worked as a locksmith lived in Rasko neighberhood of Holon and established a family. He was very active in defending the city – as a devoted member of the Haganah – and served as a symbol of discipline and self-sacrifice. In May 1948, he was drafted and served as a squad commander in one of the battalions in the “Kiryati” brigade. Leon took part in operations in Kafr ‘Anu and in Yehudiya. In Operation Danny, in the Battle of Beit-Nabala-Deir-Tarif, he led his company as the guide. Leon fell on the 3rd of Tammuz 5708 (July 10, 1948.) Before he was killed, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and was laid to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery, leaving a wife, Herta, and a child.
