He was born on the 5th of Sivan 5732 (18.5.1972) in Kibbutz Beit Hashita, the youngest son of a five-year-old family member of Kibbutz Beit Hashita, where he grew up, studied and was educated. In February 1992 Shahar was recruited to the Paratroopers Brigade and was chosen to serve in the “Orev” unit, where he completed a parachute training course and was sent to expand his combat training. After a period he was promoted to sergeant. For long periods he served with his unit in Lebanon. According to his commanders, Shachar was a professional and original fighter, who managed to function under fire with exemplary composure, and served as an example to his comrades. On August 9, 1993, Shahar was killed in a battle in Sujud, in southern Lebanon, when he was at the vantage point during a terrorist attack on the outpost, in which Lieutenant Abraham Miller and Sergeant Daniel Ray were killed and five other soldiers were wounded. Jonathan Boyden died six days later. Shahar was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery at Kibbutz Beit Hashita. Survived by his parents, three sisters – Idit, Efrat Ward and brother – Barak. Twenty-one was a dawn when he fell. After his death Shahar was promoted to First Sergeant. His commander, who said goodbye to him by the open grave, said: “You were a great friend of arms and warrior, fought with your friends in an admirable way … cool and with a special peace of mind that gave security to the environment … the kindness of the privileged. Physical and emotional support and support for others. ” In a letter of consolation to the family, the unit commander wrote: “Shahar fell in the line of duty when he came out with a force to replace the SLA unit at the Sojod post in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon. And the smell of death envelops all / the loss of friends, the pain and bereavement, and in the paradise the celebration begins / the best of men is. “In one of his scenarios, which he wrote before his enlistment in the IDF, Shahar relates the cycle of boys and girls, Kibbutz, at the end of their military service. The last section is supposed to be filmed in the cemetery, against the background of the valley fields, when everyone is gathered for the funeral of one of the classmates who died in a daring operation in Lebanon.
