Ravid, Yuval
Son of Ara and Uri, Yuval was born on June 27, 1960 in Givatayim. In August 1978 Yuval joined the IDF and was assigned to the Paratroopers Brigade. In January 1980, Yuval was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and shortly afterwards he received an early summons for an officer’s course. Yuval signed a commitment to serve for one year in the career army, but later removed himself from the officer’s course. He was of the opinion that a commander in the Israel Defense Forces should begin commanding his first stages before he became an officer, so that he would know the soldier and his needs, and that he would not be assigned to the unit he loved. In August 1980 Yuval took part in a major operation in which his unit entered Ramat Arnon, in the Valley of Lebanon. On the night of 24 Adar I 5741 (28.2.1981), while on a Shabbat vacation at his home, Yuval received information that his company was in operational activity in the Tel Aviv area. Early in the morning he went out to see if his presence was needed. On the way, on Hayarden Street in Ramat Gan, Yoval collided with a parked truck and was killed. He was 20 years old when he died. Yuval is buried at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind his parents, sister and brother.
