Rapaport, Eliav


Son of Shimon and Aviva. Born on 13.3.1950 in Haifa, he grew up in the city and completed his studies in the Leo Baeck elementary and high school in the real world, and was a member of the “Scouts” Eliav joined the IDF in early August 1968 and volunteered to serve in the Armored Corps. After basic training he paid a tank driver. From then on his path was clear: a course for NCOs, an officers ‘course, an officers’ course, and an officer in the Armored Corps, who fulfilled all his duties efficiently, to the satisfaction of his superiors, and was very fond of his subordinates. He volunteered for reserve duty in order to train a new unit in November of that year, and as a commander, he was already stationed in the unit and was already able to establish a strong connection with his soldiers. Eliav planned to study mechanical engineering abroad, and when he joined the last reserves service, he even asked him to prepare exit permits for him on March 16, 1972. On October 16, 1972, Lieutenant Eliav fell while carrying his vehicle, Al-Asad in the Western Galilee. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. In a letter of condolence sent to the family by Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, it was said: “Lieutenant Eliav Rappaport zt” l gave his life for his homeland – – – was an excellent soldier, an excellent officer and a model member. Everyone who knew Eliav – loved it. The memory of the late Lieutenant Eliav Rappaport is sacred and we were proudly crowned in our hearts. ” His commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the family: “Your son stood out in his volunteer work, which was above and beyond the norm, his ability to learn and be a leader of his subordinates.
