Rand, Menachem


Son of Asher HaKohen and Atara. He was born on the 10th of Teves, December 14, 1937, in Jerusalem. He completed his high school studies at a very young age and joined the youth movement of the religious Scouts in Jerusalem. After graduating from compulsory military service, he went to reserve duty from time to time. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and completed his studies as a lawyer. While at the university he participated in swimming competitions. He was a member of the team of students there, and won second place for swimming at the university. After completing his studies, he was active among the lawyers until the day he died. He was brilliant and very successful. After his marriage, he was a good and dedicated husband. When he was in regular service, according to what his friends told his wife, a friend entered a minefield, got on a mine and was wounded. Menachem entered the field and saved him. He died on the 14th of Kislev, December 15, 1968, while on reserve duty, near Kfar Ruppin, leaving a wife and two children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
