Ran, Eliahu (Eli)


Son of Ya’akov and Aliza. Born on 10.11.1959 in Tel Aviv, the family settled in Givatayim, where he received his first education at the Masada School and spent two years continuing his studies at the ORT Technicom vocational high school in Givatayim. He then worked in his father’s carpentry shop until his enlistment in the IDF. Eli was a bright, intelligent child who stood out in his mental and physical development. He succeeded in his studies, especially in mathematics. He loved social life and music and easily integrated with his friends, who remained faithful even during his service. In his youth he was a member of the Givatiim Scouts. He attributed most of his success to his work in the field of sports. He has left many medals for excellence in various sports and from different periods. In light athletics he was particularly good at repelling an iron ball. At the beginning of November 1976, Eli was drafted into the Armored Corps, and after completing a freshman training course, he was sent to the Armored Corps School and qualified as a tank driver, thanks to his technical skills in the maintenance corps. He was killed after he fought for thirteen days, fell on the 26 th of December 1978. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Left behind his parents, brother and sister, and his commander wrote to the bereaved family: “Although Eli was a short time in our unit, we managed to stand on Sego And Matthew and his positive attributes, rapid integration into the life of the individual, routine activities and contribution to the overall effort we have been blessed. “
