Rafer, Gideon (Theodore)
Son of Zinka and Manfred (Meir). Born on August 10, 1921 in Czernowitz, Romania to a Zionist family, his father was a professor at the University of Czernowitz, a member of the Romanian parliament and chairman of the Jewish National Fund and Keren Hayesod in the city. In 1940 he immigrated to Eretz Israel, was one of the volunteers who enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the Transport Corps. On one of his vacations, on the 23rd of Adar 5703 (February 28, 1943) he was killed in a car accident at the Beit Dagan junction and was buried in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery near Tel Aviv. His father wrote a book entitled “The Death Journey” dedicated to his memory.
