Rafan, Francz
Son of Ignatz. He was born in 1900 in Austria and immigrated to Palestine in 1939. He lived in Ramatayim where he worked as a clerk, and during the Second World War he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the Operations Company of Ports 1039 of the Engineers Corps. At the end of April 1941, the British army surrendered to the Germans and most of its members were taken prisoner. Francz managed to escape from captivity, returned to Egypt and continued his military service. On 12 Tamuz, July 15, 1943, he was involved in a car accident with a train. He was laid to rest in the British military cemetery in Genifa, Egypt. He left a brother in Israel. He was 43 years old when he died.
