Rachamim, Yehezkel Izzy


Son of Victoria and worked. Born in Singapore on June 5, 1949, he was born in a family of five, and his father died in his childhood, when he grew up in Israel and completed his ten years in Singapore. With his brother and his three brothers left in Singapore when they arrived in Israel, and Yehezkel and his brothers were sent to the Nitzanim youth village, where he continued his studies in high school. He was assigned to the navy and was sent to serve on the Eilat Navy destroyer. In October 1967, the destroyer “Eilat” was sunk as a result of Sticks missiles fired from Egyptian Navy missile boats. Yehezkel experienced one of the great disasters of the navy, during which he was wounded and hospitalized. Yechezkel recounted his difficult experiences, and they were included in the book “On Their Frontier,” written by Shmaya Avni and Mordechai Ariel: “At this moment, the fourth missile approached, and I plunged underwater, as I was instructed to do … I struggled hard in the depths, trying to float again. I barely got into it, and when I managed to get on the water, I got tangled in the ropes … Bodies were floating around … My stomach and back ached and then I vomited … I stayed in the water for seven hours and lost my sense of time … ” After his recovery, Yehezkel was stationed at the Red Sea. Later, he was sent to serve at the naval base in Haifa. In 1975, Yehezkel founded his home: he married his friend Sylvia, and the family expanded after their son Sagi and their daughter were born to Liraz. During his service, Yehezkel participated in three wars: the Six Day War, the Yom Kippur War and the “Peace of the Galilee.” In his last position, Yehezkel served as field security coordinator at the Navy base in Ashdod. He advanced from the command echelon to the rank of senior sergeant. Yehezkel has been in the position for nineteen consecutive years! On the 17th of Adar 5754 (March 9, 1994), Yehezkel fell in the line of duty and was put to rest in the military cemetery in Binyamina. Survived by Raya – Sylvia, son of – Sagi and Daughter of – Liraz, two brothers – Rahamim and Zacharia and two sisters – Racheli Wesley. He was forty-five when he fell. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “… During his service as Field Security Coordinator, Izzy was able to establish an exceptional position in his field of activity and business. … Izzy made a significant contribution to our ability to carry out important tasks. “
