Rabinowitz, Avraham

Avraham, son of Tovah and Chaim Rabinowitz, was born on 28.6.1929 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Tachkemoni elementary school in Tel Aviv, graduated from the PIKA school, and completed his studies in the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv. Avraham was a volunteer paramedic in MDA, and was beloved by his fellow medics because of his integrity, his constant interest in and concern for everyone. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the Magen David Adom as a volunteer medic and fulfilled his duties with devotion and faith, without hesitation. With special devotion, he worked on the committee for organizing blood donors in Petach Tikvah. When the battles began on the central front in East Petach Tikvah, he decided to go to the front as a military medic in the Alexandroni Brigade. On the 10th of Tammuz 5707 (17.7.1948), during a heavy bombardment at the front of Rantia-Kola, Avraham went out to help the wounded and was wounded by an enemy shell while giving first aid. Avraham died shortly after the passing of his father, Rabbi Chaim Rabinowitz z”l. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Petach Tikvah.
