Rabinowitz, Alfred (Aharon, Fredel)


Aharon, son of Chanika and Lazar Rabinowitz, was born on August 26, 1918 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. He managed to immigrate to Palestine legally with the family, who settled in Jerusalem. Aharon gained control of the Hebrew language and continued his studies at university. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, Aharon enlisted, served in the Jerusalem Brigade and excelled in the battles in Deir Abu Tur. The last battle he took was the Battle of Mount Zion, where he fell on the 8th of Av, 5708 (August 13, 1948) when he repelled the enemy’s attack. Aharon was buried in Sheikh Bader A. He was survived by a wife, Herta, and a daughter, Dafna, and on the 17th of Elul 5710 (August 30, 1950), Aharon was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
