Rabinovitch (Chaim), Eliahu (Ilya)

Son of Bella and Dov, was born on February 23, 1920 in Jersey City, the United States. In 1934 he immigrated to Eretz Israel and felt himself a “sabra” for everything. Eliahu completed elementary school in Petah Tikva, studied agriculture for a year, graduated from the Max Payne School and worked as a mechanical shutter. Was a member of Hashomer Hatzair and a member of the Jewish Brigade from the age of 12. On the day after the UN General Assembly decided on November 29, 1947, he volunteered for the Palmach and was mistakenly sent to the Yishuv in the village of Yavetz, where he was baptized. He later joined a Palmach unit and served in the Negev Brigade and participated in patrols and combat operations against gangs of rioters, conquering Arab villages (Kupah, Muhraka, Beit Khima), and later taking part in an effort to delay the progress of the regular Egyptian army, The attack on the Egyptian column in Ashdod, by force that attacked the southern part of the enemy, the attack was repulsed by heavy enemy fire, and the forces were forced to withdraw, and on this day, on the 3rd of Iyar 5708 (June 3, 1948). On November 17, 1949, he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
