Ra’anani, Meir

Meir, son of Sarah and Joseph Ra’anani, was born on April 27, 1926 in Tel Aviv and attended elementary school and Talmud Torah. At the end of his studies, at age 15, Meir was forced to take care of himself and he went to work. During the Second World War he was among the first volunteers and served four years in the British army. After his discharge he served as a mail driver. When the War of Independence broke out after the United Nations General Assembly decided to partition the country into two states, Meir was sent to guard duty and to fortification, and served in the Carmeli Brigade as a driver, first in Tzrifin and later in Acre. Meir fell on the 8th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 11, 1948) and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. He left a wife, Rachel, and a son.
